Putting in the earbuds and listening to Peter Meijer while spending $250 for groceries at Meijer. You're welcome, Congressman.

Totally sold on Trump being the next Speaker. Bring the chaos.

He’d be a fabulous Speaker. A fabulous Speaker. Probably the best Speaker of all time.

The second I heard it, it sung to me. Even gives the media what they want (more trump clicks) with out destroying the whole country. Congress has been a reality show for years, what better host than the orange man?

Moynihan’s recent act of magnanimity and generosity, namely, releasing the members only episode to the unwashed, got me thinking. This is the best $10 I spend most months.

Digital distribution allows for a negligible marginal cost which in turn yields both immense consumer surplus AND what I understand to be a respectable profit for our fave fifthrepeneurs.

No punchline this time. Just genuine appreciation for technology and the lads.

I went through a period where I would cancel and re-subscribe a number of times just because I had to get politics completely out of my consciousness , it was just too ridiculous and infuriating to listen to. But now I accept that I just love listening to the boys. Their cynical, realistic take on politics, media, and culture is a refreshing outlier in this day and age, and gives me a slight bit of hope for the future.

I really appreciated Matt’s gleeful tone when he asked Peter “how many people are on your committee?” bc he knew it was a euphemism. Peter was a good sport about it too. Just a cool little moment of real journalism (ask the right questions) that we don’t get to see often enough these days

RIP Tim Wakefield. His implausible career will never be seen in baseball again. 200 wins as a knuckleballer..

I bet Lauren Boebert knows a thing or two about pleasing the hard right.

I'll show myself out.

I bet it is getting out there now that Boebert knows how to please the Hard Right. She will probably be invited to a closed door session with the Freedom Caucus soon.

On the Joe Robinette Biden elderly front, I was recently doing a rewatch of Parks and Recreation and though this was about a decade ago, it’s pretty obvious how sharp he was then versus now.

I’m surprised there aren’t more mashups documenting his decline. He used to be pretty sharp. I remember the same with GWB. He came across kind of spacey as President but there are some videos of when he was governor of Texas and he was hitting on all cylinders

Ok, seriously I think you guys may be working a little too hard now. It's ok, we acknowledge we're greedy, spoiled bastards, you don't have to always indulge us. Go to the beach, have a cocktail, complete the shrine to Laura Bazelon. We'll be here when you get back.

Y’all need to get Matt Breunig on to talk about the child tax credit stuff. I really think that would be a fascinating conversation

I would like to hear that.

I worried that it would encourage people to have more kids for the paycheck; and then worried about worrying about that.

Bauer's first mistake was to call attention to pitcher's (esp. some of MLB's darlings) using banned substances while pitching (sticky stuff). He was doing it all over the place, to anyone who would listen. When he started doing that MLB and the folks that make a living writing about MLB were just WAITING for something to hit him with. It was this thing, but it could have been anything. This video (good channel btw along with Foolish Baseball) was kinda when I started paying attention. https://youtu.be/-8zgvK1UAH4

Trevor Bauer is exactly why I don't denounce people immediately following an accusation, even a seemingly credible one against somebody that I don't particularly like. You almost always find out there's more to the story, so unless I personally know any of the parties involved or until somebody gets convicted of something in a court of law, my policy is to make no personal judgements.

Expand full comment

If Bauer's accuser was out for money from the beginning, she did an awful job of scheming to get it. She agreed, in writing, to at least most of the rough sex she subsequently called assault. It's not impossible to imagine that her plan for securing the bag was marrying him, spending 18 months of the next ten years with him, and then letting family court be the bag man. And it's not difficult to imagine that, after the second trip to the dungeon, she decided she couldn't do it, but was owed something for services rendered.

It probably wouldn't be that difficult to hear from her directly why she did it--she's given interviews to goofballs at The Blaze, but they can't sit still long enough for her to complete a sentence. And, for some reason, the journalos who carried her banner into battle, two years ago, aren't interested in letting her tell her story, now.

Expand full comment

That really isn't any better sequence of events. All you are changing is that she initially had slightly slightly more laudable motives, but still ended up ruining a man's career over behavior she actively courted and plotted to entice.

That would be a mitigating circumstance if she had come out laying out the full story when he was under investigation. Instead she was just in it for money regardless of truth/justice.

Expand full comment

Fair. But this is an understood downside to getting dates from the Instagram inbox of a celebrity account. Amy Winehouse explained who these women are in her philosophical treatise, Fuck Me Pumps. And Bauer seems like he models his love life after the middle stanza of Larkin's Study of Reading Habits. Bad combination.

I wish Peter Meijer luck. The Michigan GOP is a clown show. I’ve seen several stories about fights and one phone video of a drunken dispute at a retreat. That’s what he’s dealing with at the moment.
