When I was growing up my guide to movies and music weren't the so-and-so's of the time, the equivalents of Pauline Kael, Andrew Sarris, Roger Ebert, Lester Bangs, Greil Marcus, et al.
Rather, it was the printed TV guide, and their bottom-of-the-screen TV (equivalent out-of-five) ratings captions after the ad break which just said S, N, D, V, L; I was always annoyed they never faded once their danger had gone so I could better manage the time pressures post-1am when the folks were asleep. I cannot also forget the handy light-religious publication pullouts which detailed the satanists and netherworlders of the metal and rock world I could more efficiently seek out.
I later matured and moved on to Yacht Rock and Quiet Storm - youth is wasted on the young of course - but gotta say I appreciated today the Mojo Nixon interview and Michael Kinsley's POV.
The Mojo v Buchanan split screen should be the cover of a jangly, faux-folk music album of obscene tracks about Jean Dixon and farm animals. I'd buy the vinyl.
I’m getting pretty good - or just had a good week. I’ve watched or listened to about half of these. Or maybe I have no life. Either way, I’m happy about it. Now to catch up on all the rest…
Thanks again for giving us worthwhile shit to give our attention to. Also, still bummed about Mojo.
Welcome to The Free Press, Yasha.
No Dead Milkmen reference in your Mojo Nixon eulogy? Sir, I might suggest that your piece could use some fixin…

Pray for Mojo.
I can't believe I hadn't seen this Crossfire clip - thank you.
And since I'm here: FREE JOHN SINCLAIR!!
I’m not sure what Matt is implying here but the End Of Innocence is one of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion
Thanks to the Connecticut College campus radio station for introducing me to Mojo back in the late 80s, as I commuted to my job in New London.
Anyone have a way to read that Mojo Nixon obit without having to subscribe to the failing NYT?
Ahhhemmmm...
Nevermind is a punk rock record?
