Top YouTube comment on the TikTok story:

"They brought the most father like journalist to cover this story and I'm here for it."

If only they knew...

I don’t know if you can share links here, but there was a Norm MacDonald tribute held at the Fonda theatre with the attendees being his family and friends (a lot of the names you’ll know). It was written by Norm’s sister-in-law Joyce Napier

At the end of to the article, she writes that Norm recorded an hour of new material that will be released on a new Netflix special.

As much as Moynihan and Welch reference Norm’s work, I’m guessing there’s a big crossover appeal so I thought I’d share. I couldn’t be more excited. It’s one of the few ‘celebrity’ deaths that I felt personally, and I’m sure more than a few of you felt the same

Welch has the Moynihan Taught Me shirt, when can I get mine? I'm thinking I need to get my wife a Cricket for Mother's day so I can make my own. Love the move to Substack and looking forward to the merch.

Ok, well, now I feel like less of a doofus for not understanding what the BFD is with NFTs. Because now on the one hand I get it, but on the other hand I can’t unlearn that theres a real market where people spend enough to buy my house on Pepe gifs.

Moynihan did an incredible job with that TikTok story, often saying and asking all the same things going through my mind. I still felt like I was in the Twilight Zone watching their lifestyles and was raging with inner judgy commentary but at the same time I'm like...how do I get a piece of that??!

Michael’s Vice pieces are always fantastic

In regards to the Vice Tik Tok segment, I truly wish Moynihan would have dropped in a What You Talkin Bout Willis? line to one of his reaction-shot faces, even just for a bonus outtake.

Loved Sarah and Michael’s back and forth on the podcast. 🍻 & stoked to be on substack!

It's interesting that the Vice videos have that 45 second "Go Support Us" clip emphasizing their dedication to the real stories of real people, but Hollywood's trip to Texas gor memoryholed and that story as just as much (if not more!) real people than the NFT story had (as admitted by that Ben Price doppelganger at the convention).

Busty, you providing that clip as a TFC Substack exclusive or just rolling with the Paloma hosting?

Love that the top comment for Moynihan's TikTok influencer VICE piece is 'They brought the most father like journalist to cover this story and I'm here for it.'

Great work by Moynihan! Especially the TikTok piece. As someone who is around the same age as him and has actually worked in the influencer space for about a decade -- it's honestly refreshing to see this kind of reporting. Also, as an aside -- I took a peek at Vice and Vice News twitter feeds, and weirdly did not see either of these pieces promoted there. Any reason for that?

So who chose the title for the NFT segment? I didn’t get the sense that there’s a “grift” happening, per se. I don’t see NFTs having a profound effect on the traditional art world, but I do see a value when it comes to creating organized marketplaces around digital artistry where one did not exist before. I went in to the segment thinking it was all a big joke, and I came out of it thinking, “oh, I actually get it now”. The numbers are probably not sustainable, especially with stagflation on the way, but I think the market is here to stay.
